Chicken Fried Steak

Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans. Yummy!
Today I made a delicious Southern dish at home: Chicken Fried Steak.  I found a wonderful recipe provided by Pioneer Woman (I recommend watching the video as well), though I made a few adjustments:

  • I seasoned the steaks about two hours ahead of time. I used Wegmans Garlic and Herb seasoning, but I suppose any seasoning would work. McCormick has a similar seasoning available.
  • I skipped the cayenne pepper but kept the paprika in the flour mixture.
  • I added a bit of the garlic and herb seasoning to the flour as well.
  • To make the gravy, I followed Alton Brown’s instructions.  This means that I added chicken broth to enhance the flavor of the gravy.  I skipped the thyme Alton recommended, though. Again, watching the video was really helpful!
This is not a healthy meal; it has quite a bit of grease. However, the meal was a great treat, and I will definitely cook this again!
